Race History

The Phoenix Desert Dragons have been racing competitively in the BCP division since 2014.  To date, the team has raced in 22 festivals in AZ, CA and NV; the Pacific Dragon Boat Regional Championship in WA; and the IBCPC festivals in Florence, Italy and Lake Karapiro, New Zealand.

The team has taken 1st Place Gold twice in the BCS 250M at the Rose Regatta, NV in 2017 and 2018  and at Castaic Lake, CA All Cancer Division 250M in 2024.

The Phoenix Desert Dragons 2nd Place Silver count includes Tempe, AZ BCS 500M in 2022 and 2024; Long Beach, CA BCS 500M in 2017; and Castaic Lake, CA BCS 250M in 2022.

The team fought hard for 2nd Place Silver at the 2019 PDBA Regional Championships in Vancouver WA in both the BCS 250M and 500M.

At the 2018 IBCPC Festival in Florence, Italy, the Phoenix Desert Dragons completed four 500M heats, finishing 37/125 overall with an average time of 2:36.6.

The Phoenix Desert Dragons competed against top BCS teams and the weather at the 2023 IBCPC Festival in Lake Karapiro, New Zealand.  The team completed two of three 500M heats finishing second in both and ranked 22/74 overall.  The team won the first 250M heat for an overall ranking of 14/52.   The remaining 500M and 250M heats were cancelled due to weather.

The team has held its own competing in Women’s division heats as well.   It took 1st Place Gold in the Women’s C Division 250M at Castaic Lake, CA in 2024 and 2nd Place Silver in Women’s B Division at the Rose Regatta 250M in 2018, and another Silver in the Women’s C Division at Castaic Lake in 2023.
